About the Institute

Welcome to the Confucius Institute at Penn State.

Our institute, a joint collaboration between Penn State and the Dalian University of Technology, has three major missions: Language, Culture, and Research. Through grants, scholarships, and other forms of funding, we support the Chinese language program at Penn State and promote the study of Chinese language in local schools. Each year we sponsor or co-sponsor a number of cultural events (music, art, or theater; Moon Festival or New Year's celebrations) that promote understanding and awareness of contemporary and classical Chinese culture. Finally, we support conferences, symposia, lectures, and workshops related to research on China, and, through our small grants program, fund research activity on issues relevant to contemporary Chinese life.

The Institute is housed in Old Botany, which it shares with Penn State's Asian Studies Program.
